While many unhealthy foods are viewed as such, others seem to slip under most people’s health radar. They are packed with preservatives and additives for taste and even nutrition. These foods may appear to be nutritious, but they do more harm than good to the body.
Here is a list of unhealthy foods that are otherwise perceived to be healthy.
Soup Mix
Contrary to popular belief, soup mix is not as healthy as you might think. It is loaded with preservatives and additives to enhance its taste. In addition, the sodium content of soup mixes is extremely high and is known to cause heart diseases.
Pasta
There are many types of pasta, some of which are considered healthy. In fact, most pasta is nothing but plain white flour mixed with eggs and water. Hence, pasta offers little to no nutritional value.
Soy Sauce
Soy sauce contains a high quantity of salt. Salt contains sodium, which in turn causes cardiac diseases. In addition, soy sauce is laced with preservatives and taste-enhancing chemicals. These chemicals are known to cause cancer. This lands soy sauce on the list of extremely unhealthy foods.
Roasted Peanuts
While peanuts are a healthy food choice, roasted peanuts are quite the opposite. Roasted peanuts have a layer of fat that gives them a great taste. Moreover, the excessive amount of salt that is added to the peanuts makes them especially unhealthy.
Processed Cheese
Like most processed foods, processed cheese is unhealthy. Instead of processed cheeses, you should opt only for organic dairy products. They have a natural taste and will provide you essential nutrients and vitamins.
Diet Soda
Fizzy drinks are, without a doubt, unhealthy. However, people consider diet sodas and drinks to be a healthier alternative. The truth is that diet soda is as harmful for your health as regular soda and similar carbonated beverages. Diet soda contains artificial sweeteners that are known to cause cancer.
Fruit Juices
Most processed fruit juices have a high quantity of preservatives and chemicals to add taste and sugar. Contrary to popular belief, processed fruit juices are by no means healthy; opt for natural fruit juices only.
Ketchup
Most ketchups contain relatively little tomato and almost no positive nutritional value. Ketchup does, however, contain a great deal of sugar, salt, preservatives, and food coloring that makes it look rich in tomato.
If you want to make sure you are consuming healthy food, choose organic options while avoiding these unhealthy foods.
