It’s true that you should never stop learning about nutrition and what you can do to live healthfully but you need to start somewhere.

The following tips for healthy eating aren’t the only things that you need to know about nutrition, weight management and living an overall healthful lifestyle but they are a fantastic beginning.

These 5 easy tips for healthy eating are meant to provide you with some very practical, simple strategies that can change virtually any lifestyle for the better.

1. Eat lots and lots of veggies

Veggies are high in nutrition and low in calories. This means that you can eat a huge amount of them without breaking through your calorie budget for the day. So when you’re hungry, eat some veggies. When it’s mealtime, fill about half your plate with them. There’s no guilt and their high fiber levels will fill you up and keep you feeling satisfied.

2. Eat fruit, but within reason

While fruit is a fantastic source of vitamins, minerals and other nutrients and while they are high in fiber, it’s easy to eat too much of them, causing blood sugar levels to spike and crash. Yes, they’re great for you and you should keep eating them but remind yourself not to go overboard.

3. Don’t lean on protein/nutrition bars

They may market themselves as being a healthful alternative but many of them are high in artificial ingredients and preservatives, fat and carbs. They’re a great alternative to absolutely nothing when there isn’t any other option and they’re certainly better for you than a candy bar but most people shouldn’t see them as a go-to snack option if they’re hoping to eat healthfully and keep their weight in check.

4. Eat more protein

Lean protein is a great way to help you to beat that feeling of being continually hungry. Moreover, try eating the protein part of the meal at the start so you’ll fill up on that first, before the carbs and fats that are on your plate.

5. Drink lots of water

You’ve heard it before and you will hear it again. That said, this remains good advice no matter how often you hear it. It keeps you hydrated, it improves your looks and the functions of your body, it suppresses your appetite and it enhances your body to achieve a healthy weight.
